Privacy Policy
You don't need to give us personal information to learn to code, so we collect as little as possible and explain exactly what happens to the little we do receive.
Last updated: 13 October 2026
This privacy policy explains what information Codevra ("Codevra", "we", "us" or "our") collects when you use our website, how we use it, who it is shared with and the choices you have. It applies to every page on the Codevra website, including lessons, exercises, quizzes, projects, the code playground and the contact form.
Summary
- There are no user profiles or passwords on Codevra. You can use every lesson without telling us who you are.
- Code you write and settings you choose are saved in your own browser, not on our servers.
- We don't use advertising cookies, tracking cookies or third-party analytics.
- If you contact us, we use your name, email address and message only to reply and to improve the site.
- We never sell, rent or trade personal information.
Information we collect
Information you give us. When you use the contact form or email us, we receive your name, your email address, the topic you choose and the content of your message. Please don't include sensitive information, such as passwords or financial details, in a message.
Information stored on your device. Some features remember your choices using your browser's local storage. This information stays on your device and is not sent to us. It includes:
- your light or dark theme preference;
- your code editor theme;
- code you save in the code playground;
- data that your own example code saves while it runs in a lesson preview.
You can delete this information at any time by clearing your browser's site data for Codevra. Our cookie policy lists each item in detail.
Technical information. Like almost every website, our hosting provider automatically processes basic technical information when your browser requests a page. This can include your IP address, browser type and version, operating system, the page requested, the referring page and the date and time of the request. We use it only to deliver pages, keep the site secure, diagnose faults and understand overall performance. We don't use it to build a profile of you.
How we use information
We use the information described above to:
- deliver the website and its interactive features to you;
- reply to your messages, questions and reports;
- fix mistakes in lessons and improve content based on your feedback;
- protect the site against spam, abuse and security threats;
- meet our legal obligations.
We don't use your information for automated decision making, and we don't send marketing emails.
Legal bases for processing
Where data protection laws such as the UK GDPR or EU GDPR apply, we rely on the following legal bases:
- Legitimate interests for running, securing and improving the website, and for replying to messages you send us.
- Consent where you choose to send us information, which you can withdraw at any time by asking us to delete it.
- Legal obligation where we must keep or disclose information to comply with the law.
Code playground share links
When you press Share in the code playground, your code is encoded into the link itself. Anyone who has the link can read that code. Codevra does not keep a copy on a server, so we can't delete or change a link once you have shared it. Never put passwords, keys or personal information in code you share.
Service providers
We use a small number of trusted providers to run the site:
- Hosting and content delivery: the site is hosted by Netlify, which serves pages and processes the technical information described above.
- Contact form processing: messages sent through our contact form are processed and stored by Netlify Forms so that we can read and reply to them.
- Email: when we reply to you, our email provider processes your email address and the content of our conversation.
These providers process information on our behalf and only for the purposes listed here. Some of them may store data outside your country, including in the United States. Where that happens, we rely on the safeguards the provider offers, such as standard contractual clauses.
Third-party content in examples
A few lesson and playground examples load sample images or test data from public services, for example a placeholder avatar or a demo API, to show how real web pages fetch content. These requests happen only when you run such an example. The service you request receives standard technical information such as your IP address, under its own privacy policy. You can always edit an example to remove the request before running it.
Links to other websites
Lessons sometimes link to official documentation or tools on other websites. We are not responsible for the content or privacy practices of those sites, and we encourage you to read their policies before giving them any information.
How long we keep information
- Contact form messages and email conversations are kept for up to 24 months after our last reply, so we can follow up on reported issues, and are then deleted.
- Hosting logs are kept by our hosting provider for a limited period, typically no longer than 30 days, unless needed to investigate a security incident.
- Information in your browser's local storage stays until you clear it.
Security
We protect the site with HTTPS encryption on every page and security headers that reduce common web attacks. Code you run in lessons executes in a sandboxed frame that is isolated from the rest of the page. No system is completely secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect the information we hold and limit access to it.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you;
- ask us to correct information that is inaccurate;
- ask us to delete your information;
- object to or ask us to restrict how we use it;
- withdraw consent you have given;
- complain to your local data protection authority.
To use any of these rights, contact us or email contact@codevra.org. We will reply within 30 days. Because we hold very little personal information, most requests are simple to resolve.
Children's privacy
Codevra is suitable for learners of all ages, and you can use every lesson without giving us any personal information. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your country). If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has sent us personal information through the contact form, please contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when our features or the law change. When we do, we will change the date at the top of this page. If a change significantly affects how we handle personal information, we will make it clear on the site.
